By extending the range to include Spartan-II FPGAs, it allows use of the
industry's leading MicroBlaze(TM) processor, the world's fastest 32-bit soft
processor core for FPGAs. Running at 65 MHz, and delivering 43 DMIPs on the
Spartan-II FPGA, the Xilinx MicroBlaze processor delivers a true 32-bit
instruction and data bus critical for building complex systems for the
automotive industry. And because MicroBlaze is a software-based IP core, it
is highly portable and does not suffer from obsolescence like traditional
microprocessors. The automotive designer can now protect many man-years of
legacy code and eliminate cost re-designs typically associated with processor
obsolescence.
By adding the ultra low power CoolRunner CPLDs to the IQ Solutions line,
automotive designers can benefit from the industry's highest performance and
ultra low power CPLD. The next generation of cars will employ "always on"
systems to monitor the health of the car and allow for more sophisticated
security systems. Silicon devices used in these monitoring systems need to be
powered from the car battery to operate even when the car is switched off.
CoolRunner CPLDs are ideal for such applications, as every device across the
range consumes less than 100uA at standby.
